FUNDRAISING

The WHS Chaparral Band is recognized as one of THE top high school band programs in the U.S. It’s a complex machine that “takes a village” of volunteers plus substantial funding to continue our legacy of excellence.

From custom uniforms and props to tricked out trucks and trailers, expert instructors and choreographers to electronics, Westlake Band Parents (WBPs) fills funding gaps not covered by Eanes ISD nor participation fees. Did you know that just 36 cents of every dollar Eanes ISD raises for operations (via taxes) stays in our school district? 64% is taken by the state through recapture and directed to other school districts. From a funding perspective, the Chap Band operates at a significant disadvantage when compared to other bands in our class.

Year after year, WBPs steps up to keep the Chap Band well-equipped and highly competitive, fueling one of the most comprehensive high school music programs in the country that includes a 200+ member marching band, four concert bands, a jazz band, and Elite Visual Ensemble/Color Guard (all top-ranked, UIL “1” ratings for 30+ years).

WHAT WE FUND

Westlake Band Parents (WBPs) funds critical band expenses not covered by the school district like:

  • Air-conditioned charter buses for long-haul trips (versus Eanes-provided school buses)

  • Travel and special education, competition, and other experiences for band students and directors

  • Key marching season equipment like prop, special uniform (ex. EVE), and transportation needs

  • Scholarships for students in need

  • Substantial meal subsidies (for students, drivers, CHAPerones)

  • Band banquet funding (ex. seniors attend free)

  • Other mission-critical needs

Westlake Band Parents is a registered 501(c)(3) all-volunteer booster club established in 1976 whose sole purpose is to support the student musicians of Eanes ISD middle & high schools. Questions? Contact fundraising@westlakeband.org.
