CONCERT BANDS
WIND ENSEMBLE
Director - Kerry Taylor
The Wind Ensemble is the Band Department's premier concert organization and is composed of the top wind musicians at Westlake High School. Membership is by individual audition in the Fall Semester and is based, primarily, upon the Region Band audition music. The Wind Ensemble performs significant wind band literature, featuring original works, chamber, orchestral and keyboard transcriptions.

The Wind Ensemble meets during the Fall and Spring Semesters. The ensemble performs at the Holiday Concert, Winter Concert, Pre-UIL, UIL Contest and the Spring Concert. The Wind Ensemble travels at least once a year to perform in various venues across the United States. This elite group has performed at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago, IL, the American Bandmasters Association Convention in Dallas, Texas and is frequently invited to perform for various occasions within the community and state. It was also the first high school band ever invited to perform at the bi-annual WASBE Conference in 2009.
SYMPHONIC WINDS
Director - Taylor LaPrairie
The Symphonic Winds is the Band Department's second concert organization and is composed of musicians from all grade levels with heightened musical maturity. Membership is by individual audition in the Fall Semester and is based primarily upon the Region Band audition music. The Symphonic Winds performs significant wind band literature, featuring original works, chamber, orchestral and keyboard transcriptions.

The Symphonic Winds meets during the Spring Semester. The ensemble performs at the Winter Concert, Pre-UIL, UIL Contest and the Spring Concert. The Symphonic Winds travels at least once a year to perform in various venues across the United States.
SYMPHONIC
Director - John Pearson
The Symphonic Band is the Band Department’s third concert organization and is composed of musicians from all grade levels. Musicianship is by individual audition in the Fall Semester and is based primarily upon the Region Band audition music. The Symphonic Band performs challenging original wind band music along with orchestral and keyboard transcriptions.

The Symphonic Band meets during the Spring Semester. The ensemble performs at the Winter Concert, Pre-UIL, UIL Contest and the Spring Concert. The Symphonic Band travels at least once a year to perform in various venues across the United States.

Membership is by individual audition in the Fall Semester and is based primarily upon the Region Band audition music. The Concert Band performs challenging original wind band music along with orchestral and keyboard transcriptions.

The Concert Band meets during the Spring Semester. The ensemble performs at the Winter Concert, Pre-UIL, UIL Contest and the Spring Concert. The Concert Band travels at least once a year to perform in various venues across the United States.
FRESHMAN BAND
The “Freshman Band” meets only in the Fall Semester and performs for the Holiday Concert in December. The ensemble is comprised primarily of Freshmen in the Westlake Chap Band,but may also include a few non-freshman members. The purpose of the class is to acclimate first-year students to the high school environment, particularly during marching season, and to introduce the standards of ensemble and individual playing expected at the high school level.
