ABOUT
The Jazz Department at Westlake High School features two Jazz Ensembles which focus on the study and performance of jazz and modern music and include musicians from 9-12th grade. Students in these Ensembles are also in one or more of the Music Department’s parent organizations (band, choir, or orchestra). Chap Jazz is committed to bringing quality performances and experiences to the Westlake Community.
The Westlake Jazz Ensembles meet year-round during the school day. Membership is by individual audition in the Spring Semester. The Ensembles focus primarily on continuing the development of advanced skills needed to perform the many forms of jazz music at a high level. The Jazz Ensembles perform at school concerts & events, festivals, local jazz clubs, and are active in and around the community.
JAZZ I & JAZZ II
ENSEMBLES
JAZZ I
Jazz I is the varsity-level jazz band for advanced student musicians. The ensemble performs challenging jazz repertoire and represents the school at UIL competitions and other performances throughout the year.
JAZZ II
Jazz II is our junior varisty-level jazz band. Open to students who play any instrument, the ensemble gives musicians an opportunity to build jazz skills, gain performance experience, and prepare for more advanced jazz studies.

Westlake Jazz is committed to bringing quality performances and experiences to the Westlake Community. Ensembles and students of the Westlake Jazz Department are available to book for community/private events between the months of November and May of each school year.
