PERCUSSION
ABOUT
During the Spring Semester, the percussionists are split among the three concert ensembles (Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble). However, during those class periods, percussionists are given specific instructional time to improve their skills and pedagogy. This year is the first year for the Chap Band to offer a Percussion Ensemble class alongside the concert bands. The Percussion Ensemble holds a concert in March at the Westlake HS PAC. This concert showcases ensembles and soloists from each band, as well as both middle school percussion groups

PERCUSSION GROUPS
ENSEMBLES
BATTERY
The battery percussion is the section we traditionally think of as “the drumline”, and meets during 8th period in the fall semester. Battery students will spend the year learning the fundamentals of marching and playing a drum, as well as participate in extra-curricular drumline events such as parades, galas, and other fun events.
FRONT ENSEMBLE
The front ensemble features all of the grounded percussion instruments such as xylophones, marimbas, vibraphones, synthesizers, and auxiliary percussion. This class meets outside on the track during 1st period in the fall semester
CONCERT BAND PERCUSSION
During the Spring semester the percussion studio will audition for and be separated into 3 concert ensembles, these will meet 1st-3rd period.
PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE
During the spring semester each concert ensemble will also break out into a percussion ensemble, as well as 2 chamber groups per class. Outside of classes there is also an audition-based Percussion Orchestra that will come together to play advanced percussion literature.
