Central Texas' Premier Marching Festival Returns
October 9, 2021
Westlake High School will host area bands for a day of marching competition on Saturday, October 9, 2021. This year's festival promises to be another great event with some excellent bands from all over Texas.

Meet the 2021 Bands

​
John B. Connally High School (5A)
Austin, Texas
Connally High School Band is under the direction of Mr. DaJuan Brooks and Assistant Directors, Jay Lopez, Erika Agrait, Jason Russell, and Alejandro Garcia.
The Connally High School Band will perform its show titled "Doppelganger" featuring selections by Tchaikovsky, Billie Eillish, Rob Stein, Rudy Arzaga, and Bryan Nungary.

Dripping Springs High School (5A)
Dripping Springs, Texas
Dripping Springs High School Band is under the direction of Mr. Derek Woods and Assistant Directors, John Pearson, Amanda Petro, Matt Ehlers, and Sarah Johnson.
The Dripping Springs High School Band will perform its show titled "so many possibilities...." featuring music of Sondheim, Mussorgsky, and Hylton.

Akins Early College High School (6A)
Austin, Texas
Akins Early College High School Band is under the direction of Mr. Babatunde Onibudo and Assistant Directors, Mr. Jose Flores and Mr. Daniel Sharp.
The Akins Early College High School Band will perform its show titled "Everything Old is New Again" arranged by Ben Hylton featuring Movement 1: Reverence; Movement 2: Gold; and Movement 3: New.

Austin High School (6A)
Austin, Texas

Austin High School Band is under the direction of Mr. Brian K. Frock and Assistant Directors, Mr. Richard Patenaude and Mr. Andrew Fuhrman.
The Austin High School Band will perform its show titled "New World Odyssey" featuring excerpts from New World Symphony by Anton Dvorak and Interstellar by Hans Zimmer.

Tom C Clark High School (6A)
San Antonio, Texas
The Clark High School Band has a long standing tradition of excellence with 40+ years of Sweepstakes at UIL competitions. The band performs regularly at the Battle of Flowers Parade in San Antonio as well as various South Texas marching competitions. The Clark Band qualified for the Texas State Marching Band Contest in 2014 and was invited to travel to Washington D.C in 2016 to perform in the National Memorial Day Parade. The Clark High School Marching band is under the direction of Justin Murphy and assistant directors Jon Thornhill, Peter Strauss, Ben Pyles and Geoffrey Gutierrez.
The Clark High School Band will perform its show titled "Empire State of Mind" featuring music by Daniel Pemberton, Jeff Tyzik, Alicia Keys, and Leonard Bernstein.

Round Rock High School (6A)
Round Rock, Texas
The Dragon Band has performed in the Tournament of Roses Parade, the UIL State Marching Contest, multiple Bands of America Regionals and Grand Nationals and is a 2014 Sudler Shield Recipient. The band is under the direction of David Mobley and assistant directors Steve Roeder, Brittany Graham, Cathy Benford and Whitney Stone.
The Round Rock High School Band will perform its show titled "In the Shadow of Apollo" witthh music by Dmitri Shostakovich.

United High School (6A)
Laredo, Texas
The United High School band was the 2018 AREA G Marching contest champion and has been a 3 time Texas State Marching contest participant. The United High School Marching Band has earned 21 1st division Superior rating and 18 consecutive Sweepstakes in a row. The United High School Wind Ensemble has been invited to perform at the Music for All National concert band festival in March of 2020 in Indianapolis Indiana among the finest band programs in the country. The band is under the direction of Mr. John J. Mallon and Assistant Directors, Amelia Amaya, Michael Valdez, Eric Ambrose and Fred Rodriguez.
The United High School Band will perform its show titled "Vincent". Trois Gymnopedies by Satie. Symphony Fantastique Op. 14 by Hector Berlioz. Clare De Lune by Claude Debussy. Starry Starry night by Josh Groban. Symphony No. 7 Op. 60 in C Major "Leningrad by Dimitri Shostakovich.

United South High School (6A)
Laredo, Texas
The U-South Outdoor Performance Ensemble has been gaining notoriety with its' On-Field Productions and consistent success at the UIL Region and Area Level. The ensemble is part of a most diverse music program where students have opportunities to participate in not only marching band, but also in 3 Concert Bands, Jazz Band, 2 Mariachi Groups, Winter Drumline, Winterguard as well as various chamber ensembles. The U-South Outdoor Performance Ensemble has been a Finalist at the UIL Area G Marching Contest in 2014, 2016 and 2018. The United South High School Band has garnished 11 Consecutive UIL Sweepstakes Awards. The band is under the direction of Francisco Javier Sosa, Director of Bands, and assisted by Valerie Lopez, Alonzo Martinez, Rodolfo Montalvo, Griselda Dozal and Mario Limon.
The United South High School Band will perform its show titled "X-Calibur - The Legend of the Sword" featuring music by Frank Sullivan and Imagine Dragons.

Westlake, Texas
In its 40+ year history, the Chaparral Band has won the Texas State Honor Band three times. The Westlake High School Band is also one of only 14 bands world-wide to win the prestigious Sudler Shield and Sudler Flag, which are international awards given annually by the John Philip Sousa Foundation.

The Chaparral Band is under the direction of Mr. Kerry Taylor and assistant directors Ms. Jana Robertson, Mr. Taylor LaPrairie, Mr. Tyler Sammons and EVE Director, Ms. Kaysey Thompson. Set sail with the Chap Band as we embark on a harrowing journey through tranquil seas and rough waters, featuring the music of Max Richter, Steven Mellilo, John Mackey and Carol Britten Chambers. The 2021 Westlake Chaparral Band is proud to present, "ADRIFT".
