Westlake will host area bands for a day of marching competition on October 10, 2020. This year's festival promises to be another great event with some excellent bands all over Texas.
Meet the 2019 Bands
Cedar Creek High School (5A)
Cedar Creek, Texas
Cedar Creek High School Band has been a varsity program for 4 years. The band is under the field direction of drum majors Jasmine Rocha, Maya Cornelius, and Carlos Ontiveros. The directors of the Cedar Creek High School Marching band are Dalton Davis, Seth Davis, Ben Russell, and Victoria Adebo.
The Cedar Creek High School Band will perform its show titled"In Shining Armor" featuring Brahms Symphony 1 Movement 4 and Tchaikovsky Symphony 6 Movement 1.
Tom C Clark High School
The Clark High School Band has a long standing tradition of excellence with 40+ years of Sweepstakes at UIL competitions. The band performs regularly at the Battle of Flowers Parade in San Antonio as well as various South Texas marching competitions. The Clark Band qualified for the Texas State Marching Band Contest in 2014 and was invited to travel to Washington D.C in 2016 to perform in the National Memorial Day Parade. The Clark High School Marching band is under the direction of Justin Murphy and assistant directors Jon Thornhill, Adela Lerma, Geoffrey Gutierrez, Donnell Cartwright and Chelsea Martinez.
The Clark High School Band will perform its show titled"Reflections" featuring music by Pat Metheny, Eric Whitacre and Justin Timberlake.
Connally High School (5A)
Connally High School Band is a 4 time State Finalist and is under the direction of Mr. Marc Telles and assistant directors Iram Reyes, Jason Russell, Ryan Thornton, Yvanna Reyes, Kwame Ward, Lina Fisher-Irazari, Alejandro Lopez, and Andrew Nguyen.
The Connally High School Band will perform its show titled "As above, so below." featuring the music of Bach, Beethoven, and Bon Iver.
Round Rock High School (6A)
Round Rock, Texas
The Dragon Band has performed in the Tournament of Roses Parade, the UIL State Marching Contest, multiple Bands of America Regionals and Grand Nationals and is a 2014 Sudler Shield Recipient. The band is under the direction of David Mobley and assistant directors Steve Roeder, Brittany Graham, Cathy Benford and Nicole Younger, Color Guard Director.
The Round Rock High School Band will perform its show titled "A Simple Gesture" which features Vesti La Giubbe by Leoncavallo, La Vie En Rose by Piaf, Organ Symphony by Camille Saint Saens.
Lockhart High School (5A)
San Antonio, Texas
The Roaring Lion Band has received two straight sweepstakes ratings at UIL Region 12 Marching Contest. The band is under the direction of Mr. James Crowley and Joseph Gannon, Associate Director; Daniel Burow, Assistant Director and Sergeo Rodriguez, Color Guard Director.
The Lockhart High School Band will perform its show titled "Interwoven" which was arranged by Carol Brittin Chambers and Colin Pagel.
Seguin High School (5A)
In it's 101st season of continous operation, the Seguin Matador Band carries a rich history of excellence. The Matador Band has performed in the Texas State Marching Contest, Bands of America Region Competitions, New York's Carnegie Hall and Music for All National Festival. The band is under the direction of Mr. Stan Mauldin and assistant directors Samantha DiMateo, David Witherspoon, Brad Samsen Percussion Director and Heather Brown Colorguard Director.
The Seguin High School Band will perform its show titled "Transformation" featuring Rite of Spring, Igor Stravinski. Apres Moi, Regina Spector. March from Symphonic Metamorphosis and Paul Hindemith.
Taft High School (6A)
San Antonio, Texas
Since 1985, the William H. Taft Raider Band of San Antonio, Texas has displayed continued growth and excellence in the field of marching arts, as well as band and color guard performance. The Raider Marching Band has participated and received high rankings in many events such as Bands of America, the UIL State Marching Contest, and has a history of consecutive first division ratings at the Texas UIL Marching Contest as well as UIL Stage and Sight Reading Contest. The band is under the direction of Greg Mills, Director of Bands, and Robert Soto, Associate Director of Bands, Rick Astorga- Director of Percussion Studies and Tim Robinson, Director of Color Guard.
The Taft High School Band will perform its show titled "Carmen: A Spy Story" featuring Carmen by Bizet, The Incredibles by Michael Giacchino, James Bond by Arnold, and Mission Impossible by Shifirin. Winds and Percussion by Manny Maldonado.
Temple High School (6A)
The Temple High School Wildcat Band has been a part of the Temple community for nearly 100 years. We are very proud of our long history of successful marching, concert and jazz bands. The band is under the direction of Brent Mathesen Director of Bands, and Marcos Duran, Asst. Band Director, Markus Bonilla, Asst. Band Director, Director of Percussion; Lacy Garcia , Color Guard Director; Cheryl Stephens, Color Guard Consultant; Jennifer Essary, Brass and Visual Caption Head, and Evan Simmons, Woodwind and Visual Caption Head.
The Temple High School Band will perform its show titled "Full Circle: A Story of Redemption" featuring Kingfisher's Catch Fire - John Mackey; Fix You - Cold Play; Weekend - Mac Miller; Rite of Spring - Igor Stravinski; and Jazz Suite No. 2 - Dimitri Shostokovich.
United High School (6A)
The United High School band was the 2018 AREA G Marching contest champion and has been a 3 time Texas State Marching contest participant. The United High School Marching Band has earned 21 1st division Superior rating and 18 consecutive Sweepstakes in a row. The United High School Wind Ensemble has been invited to perform at the Music for All National concert band festival in March of 2020 in Indianapolis Indiana among the finest band programs in the country. The band is under the direction of Mr. John J. Mallon and Michael Valdez, Michael Garcia and Amelia Amaya - Assistant Directors. Fred Rodriguez, Guard instructor, Elda Guzman Guard Tech. Chris Guerrero, Alexis Merin, Alex Perez and Adrian Dominguez - Marching Techs.
The United High School Band will perform its show titled "Flight 571" featuring Symphony No. 1, The Lord of the Rings, Journey in the Dark (The Mines of Moria) by Johan De Meij, The Canyon by Phillip Glass, There's No Place Like Home by Michael Giacchino, and Alpensymphonie Symphony by Richard Strauss.
United South High School (6A)
The U-South Outdoor Performance Ensemble has been gaining notoriety with its' On-Field Productions and consistent success at the UIL Region and Area Level. The ensemble is part of a most diverse music program where students have opportunities to participate in not only marching band, but also in 3 Concert Bands, Jazz Band, 2 Mariachi Groups, Winter Drumline, Winterguard as well as various chamber ensembles. The U-South Outdoor Performance Ensemble has beed a Finalist at the UIL Area G Marching Contest in 2014, 2016 and 2018. The United South High School Band has garnished 11 Consecutive UIL Sweepstakes Awards. The band is under the direction of Francisco Javier Sosa, Director of Bands, and Rodolfo Montalvo - Associate Director of Bands, Valerie Lope - Assistant Band Director, Guillermo Rivera - Assistant Band Director and Griselda Dozal - Visual Instructor.
The United South High School Band will perform its show titled "Cityscapes" featuring Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin, God Moving Over the Face of the Waters by Moby. Mvt. 1 - Simplicity, Mvt. 2 - Intensity, Mvt. 3 - Immensity, Mvt. 4 - Velocity and Mvt. 5 - Virtuosity.
Westlake High School (in exhibition)
In its 40+ year history, the Chaparral Band has won the Texas State Honor Band three times. The Westlake High School Band is also one of only 14 bands world-wide to win the prestigious Sudler Shield and Sudler Flag, which are international awards given annually by the John Philip Sousa Foundation.
The Chaparral Band is under the direction of Mr. Kerry Taylor and assistant directors Ms. Anna Saenz, Ms. Jana Robertson and Mr. Tyler Sammons. The WHS marching band will perform its show titled Opportunity Knocks.
