WHAT WE FUND
The WHS Chaparral Band is recognized as one of the top high school music programs in the nation. Keeping it that way takes more than talent — it takes community support.
Here's something most people don't know: Eanes ISD keeps only 36 cents of every property tax dollar it raises. The other 64% is sent to the state through Texas' Recapture law — funds Eanes will never see again. That means the Chap Band operates at a significant funding disadvantage compared to other top programs in our class. Year after year, Westlake Band Parents (WBPs) step in to bridge that gap.
WBPs is a 501(c)(3) all-volunteer booster club founded in 1976, whose sole purpose is supporting the student band musicians of Eanes ISD — a program that includes a 188-member marching band, 3 concert bands, 2 jazz ensembles, 3 full orchestras, and an elite color guard, with UIL "Superior" ratings for 30+ consecutive years. Every dollar you give goes directly to the kids.
WHAT WE FUND
WBPs funds essential expenses that Eanes ISD and participation fees don't cover, including:
-
Air-conditioned charter buses for long-haul competitions (not school buses)
-
Special educational experiences, clinics, competitions, and travel for students and directors
-
Competitive marching season needs — props, uniforms, composers, designers, clinicians & technicians
-
Financial assistance for students who need help with fees, trips, or private lessons
-
Meal subsidies for students, directors, support staff, chaperones & bus drivers
-
Band banquet funding (seniors attend free)
-
Emergency and mission-critical needs as they arise — equipment & truck rental
All donations are tax-deductible and eligible for employer matching.
