The Jazz Department at Westlake High School features two Jazz Ensembles which focus on the study and performance of jazz and modern music and include musicians from 9-12th grade.  Students in these Ensembles are also in one or more of the Music Department’s parent organizations (band, choir, or orchestra).  Chap Jazz is committed to bringing quality performances and experiences to the Westlake Community.

 

The Westlake Jazz Ensembles meet year-round during the school day.  Membership is by individual audition in the Spring Semester.  The Ensembles focus primarily on continuing the development of advanced skills needed to perform the many forms of jazz music at a high level.  The Jazz Ensembles perform at school concerts & events, festivals, local jazz clubs, and are active in and around the community.

In 2025 we had three Region Jazz Participants:

• Henry Boyle - 4th Trumpet

• Evelyn Curry - 1st Tenor Saxophone

• Aditya Gullapalli - 1st Alto Saxophone
   

In 2026 both of our Jazz Ensembles performed at the Butch Miles Jazz Festival at Texas State University, where our Jazz 1 Ensemble received Outstanding Performing Ensemble  and Outstanding Musician was Awarded to :

• Bas Thomas

• Henry Boyle

• Aditya Gullapalli
