The Jazz Department at Westlake High School features two Jazz Ensembles as well as the Jazz Club in the spring. The Ensembles focus on the study and performance of jazz and modern music and include musicians from 9-12th grade.  Students in these Ensembles are also in one or more of the Music Department’s parent organizations (band, choir, or orchestra).  Chap Jazz is committed to bringing quality performances and experiences to the Westlake Community.

 

The Westlake Jazz Ensembles meet year-round during the school day.  Membership is by individual audition in the Spring Semester.  The Ensembles focus primarily on continuing the development of advanced skills needed to perform the many forms of jazz music at a high level.  The Jazz Ensembles perform at school concerts, festivals, and are active in and around the community.

 

 

The Chap Jazz Club meets after school from February through the end of the school year.  Membership is open to all Westlake High School music students as well as 8th grade music students from both Eanes ISD middle schools.  Students in the Chap Jazz Club work towards learning basic jazz vocabulary, styles and improvisation skills.  This group performs at the annual Chapland Concert in May.
